Ahhhhhh, the glorious feeling of not having to go to work or school (For now, summer school starts May 29th). I woke up this AM to my wife pointing a camera at me and demanding I dance. What the? She said that she told you all out thee that I’d be dancing. I told her I don’t dance, especially when I just woke up and I’m heading for the crapper in my bathrobe not fully awake with my hair standing straight up on end. No, absolutely not. I have not been to blog land in a while, due to school. You know, these final exams in nursing are not easy, they are always changing things up and making me use my mind. I like to be tested on what I was taught. I like to see the answers that correlate to what I was taught, BUT NO!!!! They have to get silly and make me think, how about that. Mondays final, I did not do so well, but since my grades were good I passed N352, phew. Tuesdays exam is still not posted due to them reviewing some “questionable” questions. (i.e. the class as a whole did lousy and they have to curve it, d/t those types of questions I mentioned earlier). Now the coup de grace was the infamous patho exam. I needed a 55 to pass, I achieved my highest grade ever in patho, a whopping 93.9!!!! Yabadabadoo!!!

As for vacation, no there is no win fall of cash, I can assure you that. My brother-in-law David has a condo in Myrtle Beach and he is being ever so gracious(as he always is) and letting us use it for a week. We are taking the bikes down with us and the plan is rest, no agenda except to go to the town of Little River, SC and attend the blue crab festival, and later in the week head up to NC and go to the fishing village of Calabash, NC and get some of the world famous “Calabash style seafood,” lightly battered and deep fried!!! I can feel those arteries a clogging now, but hey, they make Plavex and other hypertensive drugs don’t they? So Barb, we’ll be passing you on 495 on the way to 95 South.

I am trying to coordinate the siding of the house today, so that we can get it buttoned up. Picture this, Sage Green siding with Mocha window trim wrap with White replacement window. Can you say                              BEE YOU TEE FULL?

I have luch scheduled with my good friend Dr. Richard Socash at noon, it will be nice to be able to hang out with him and his wife Trish for the summer. Cigars and Guinness!!

Love to all! Peace out and thanks for making this blog the big success that it is.

A Post!

May 15, 2007 by lacasa

Hi All,

Sorry I haven’t posted. Tom is neck deep in studying, and I can’t bear to sit at the computer after I’ve sat there all day at work.

We’ve enjoyed the house for the last couple of weeks, but really, we haven’t made much progress on anything since we’ve moved in. Tom had papers due and then he moved right into studying for finals. We leave FRIDAY for vacation, and before we leave I have two articles due. So–we’re both busy with work. We’ve found some time to bike ride on the river path and rail trail that are right next to the house, and Tom spend some time on the yard. The weather has been so beautiful that we just want to be outside!!

Here are some pictures, though they aren’t much different from the ones you’ve already seen. The tape/mud on the wall will become a two-seat bar (hopefully before everyone gets here in June–what are the dates by the way, and is Stacy and Hannah staying with us?? PLEASE!!!!) Notice our back yard and the GARAGE. We’re going to have a block party and ask everyone to help us paint over the veggies–are you in Homa?

We’re ordering our siding this week, so that’s our next big project. Once Tom is done with summer school, he’ll do little stuff like change lights/switchplates/and trim.

Thanks for your patience while were lazy about posting!! Check back here on Thursday to see a video of Tom dancing because the semester’s over. :)

Morning.

April 23, 2007 by lacasa

When I was a little girl, I loved visiting my grandparents’ house. It wasn’t just the candy drawer or the made-to-order breakfast served on a t.v. tray; it was the bright morning sun that blazed through the kitchen windows.

Gram’s house had three beautiful kitchen windows on the front of the house. The rays of sun would first hit the floor–three long beams of warm sunlight that lit up the kitchen. An hour or so later the sun was a bit higher and it warmed our faces as we sat at the kitchen table in our bathing suits waiting to be able to swim at 9 am.

Every time Tom and I have looked at a house, I’d ask, “Where does the sun come in every morning?” I so wanted morning sun in the kitchen like at Gram’s. So you can imagine my delight when I walked into the kitchen after coming in from a run this morning: click here, here, and here.

And here’s what we woke up to: one, two.

All that and red chairs too.

I have to tell you that I’ve been thanking my Father all weekend. And just in case you’re not sure who I’m talking about, click here. I surely didn’t need to go to church to worship this weekend. Tom and I have been in wonder for two days now.

After I clean, I’ll take more pictures. :)

We’re In!!!

April 22, 2007 by lacasa

We had over 20 people show up to help us move. It was so encouraging. It was very fun having everyone work together. Everyone showed up around 9 am. The truck and cars were loaded with the first load by 9:45; by 10:37 everything was unloaded and Dena and Tarek made hamburgers and hotdogs for all of us. That was a HUGE help. The guys went back for one more load–the washer and dryer and misc. stuff that didn’t fit in the first load. By 12 almost everyone was gone (except Sammy and Alecia who stayed and helped me organize the kitchen.)

Our neighbors invited us over for pizza and wings later in the day so that we didn’t have to worry about dinner. It was a great day and I was on the verge of tears most of the day because we are so blessed with this beautiful house and faithful friends.

Two callouts–our friend Matt Kasson was an unbelievable work horse. Tom and I were shocked by his strength and endurance. He made the hard work of moving look easy and he had a smile the whole time.  And our friend Cheryl M. who walked into my chaos at the old house and completely took over making decisions for me. She kept everyone moving at the one end and then kept all our “stuff” organized at the other end. She made it very, very easy for us to find stuff as we unpacked.

I’m putting all these pictures in a slideshow, but I’ll add individual pictures of our rooms all clean, organized and setup.

The kitchen, bedroom and office are all organized. We’re putting up window treatments and closet organizers today.

Color! Color! Color!

March 31, 2007 by lacasa

Ohmyword.

The guys worked so hard this weekend. Actually, the girls worked (and by that I mean my mother) a ton, too. The guys tiled. Mom painted and then I helped her paint on Saturday.

Here are the pictures. Notice the stages of the brick in the fireplace.

Last weekend we painted the trim in the living room. (Remember when it looked like this? I came in the next day, saw the color–and hated it. But we had already painted the entire living room with all the trim–floor trim, windows, and doors. But it was custard YELLOW!! Not at all what I wanted. So mom convinced me to go to Home Depot and get different paint. I told the guy exactly what I wanted and he picked the colors. He chose a magnificent golden color for the kitchen–no, wait. I actually chose this color.

He chose the living room colors: The trim is a light sand color; the walls are a GORGEOUS camel.

We also have an accent wall that is AMAZING. It’s called CORK.

Okay, now here’s the progression of the fireplace.

We still have six and seven.

Here’s the kitchen!!

From this to this to  this. To this. To THIS. TO THIS.

We left the day with it drying.

Tomorrow we’ll grout. Very exciting.

I love it.

Tom will post about his weekend soon. I just wanted to get some pictures up.
